Starting my Adaptive Gymnastics Program

Image
Starting an adaptive gymnastics program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The journey began with the goal of creating an inclusive space where children with special needs could experience the joy of movement, build confidence, and develop physical skills in a supportive environment. It’s amazing to see the progress students make, not only in gymnastics but in their overall self-esteem and communication. By tailoring lessons to meet individual abilities, I’ve witnessed breakthroughs that extend beyond the gym. This program is about more than gymnastics—it's about fostering growth, connection, and empowerment for every child involved. The smiles and achievements of these students remind me every day why this work is so important.      The kids in my adaptive gymnastics program inspire me to keep going every day because of the incredible resilience and joy they bring to the gym. Watching them overcome challenges, whether it’s le...

Ninjas New Skill This Week

This week in Ninja Class, our students focused on learning shoulder rolls, a fundamental ninja move for safe landings and smooth transitions. At first, some were a bit nervous, but with step-by-step guidance, they quickly caught on. We broke down the technique, practicing how to tuck the chin, roll across the shoulder, and finish in a balanced stance. After a few tries, the kids started to roll with confidence, improving their coordination and body awareness. Shoulder rolls are not only fun, but they help build core strength and flexibility. By the end of the session, every student was rolling like a true ninja, excited to add this new skill to their growing repertoire! The Word "Can't"

As a young gymnastics coach, mental health is just as important as physical strength in my program.  I've learned that what we say to ourselves shapes our abilities and confidence. That's why in my gymnastics class, the word “can’t” doesn’t exist. It’s not just about reframing negativity but building a mindset that fuels progress. When a gymnast says “I can’t,” it’s like closing the door to possibility. The mind starts to believe in limits, and that hinders growth. Instead, I encourage my students to say, “I’m working on it,” or “I’m getting there.” This shift in language creates space for learning, patience, and resilience. I’ve seen kids push through mental blocks, discovering they’re capable of much more than they originally thought. Gymnastics is as much mental as it is physical, and the conversations we have with ourselves matter. This is why I emphasize positive self-talk and mental health in my classes. If we can eliminate self-doubt and remove “can’t” from our vocabular...

Recap of Halloween Week

Image
Halloween Week at the gym was an absolute blast! Our athletes came dressed in their favorite costumes, adding a fun twist to our usual routines. Despite the spooky attire, everyone stayed focused and gave their best efforts during training, proving that costumes do not get in the way of great gymnastics! We incorporated Halloween-themed gymnastics games  and activities, bringing lots of excitement and laughter to the sessions. From spider web obstacles courses to witches broom stick balancing challenges, every day was filled with fun.  I want to take a moment to express just how incredibly grateful I am for my amazing students. Their dedication, positive attitudes, and enthusiasm never ceases to inspire me. Watching them grow and achieve their goals, even while having fun in costumes, reminds me why I love what I do. I am equally as thankful to the ...
